Reading the Room, Mapping the Gaze

Reading the Room, Mapping the Gaze

Can art be read like a text? Celebrate the newly opened Frye Parlor and the launch of Seattle Art Book Fair (SABF) with a playful activity that invites you to map your own unique “reading” of Frye Salon. Join designer and SABF co-organizer Jayme Yen in the gallery from 6–8 pm to try your hand at Reading the Room, Mapping the Gaze, inspired by methods she used to create Frye Parlor.

Transcribe what you see in the gallery in a fun and accessible way that encourages slow looking and creative interpretation. Take your map home or leave it at the Welcome Desk for possible inclusion in an upcoming zine.

Reading the Room, Mapping the Gaze

A woman wearing a white shirt and a black bag is writing on a paper on a clipboard while standing in front of a wall of framed landscape paintings in an art gallery. Several other visitors are gathered around, observing the artwork. The gallery floor is wood, and the room is bathed in soft light.
